Cook St Beach House
Cook St Beach House is a new holiday home on the water at Salamander Bay.
The clients have been marvelous stewards of the site, asking that we design of a scale and material palette sympathetic to the beach shacks that are slowly disappearing up and down the coast.
A 1.5m flood planning level imposed by council helped to inform a solid masonry podium with lightweight structure above.
Planning was an exercise of simply mimicking the way the clients enjoy the site - morning swims followed by reading in the sun, afternoons retreating to the western deck out of the strong north easterly, evening wine looking across to Tea Gardens in the dying light.
