Bush Retreat
The bush retreat is the forever home for a blended family located on an environmental conservation block just outside of Singleton in the Hunter Valley.
The site is one of the most complicated we have worked on, constrained by 10m boundary setbacks, two natural water courses bisecting the site, a flame zone bushfire rating and remnant forest on the federal critically endangered register.
The house has been placed low and long along the contour, affording every room a view to the south over the valley, with clerestory windows affording every habitable room cross ventilation and northern light.
The tough exterior material palette of recycled concrete sleepers and off-form slabs is softened by an interior palette of plywood. Joinery, fixtures and fittings are utilitarian and pragmatic, reflecting the values of our hard working client.
